NAWLEE is pleased to announce the following scholarship opportunities for the 2019 Annual Conference - Deadline to Apply is May 29, 2019!

Ina Mae “Tiny” Miller Award and Scholarship

The NAWLEE Ina Mae “TINY” Miller award is presented by the NAWLEE Board of Directors and sponsored by Ms. Miller’s family: daughter, Conni Eichler; her grandchildren Kerri Eichler Pfuehler, Kelli Eichler Diaz, Shannon Miller Brown and Che Miller to recognize a law enforcement officer for exceptional acts; not limited to acts of bravery or exemplary service to their department or community. This award and scholarship will recognize an individual who exhibits the same dedication to leadership and the mission of NAWLEE. This recognition will acknowledge an individual in law enforcement in a non-executive position.  This award requires a nomination from someone other than the scholarship and award recipient. 

This act will have needed to occur within the dates of May 2018 and May 2019.

The nomination will include, at least one of the following criteria: 

Act of Bravery and Heroism: The Ina Mae “Tiny” Miller Award recognizes an act of bravery and heroism that went above and beyond the call of duty. This would be an extraordinary act supported by documentation/video or other reliable source.

Motivation and Vision: The Ina Mae “Tiny” Miller Award recognizes an individual for providing an inspired vision within their department or community by taking on a difficult mission/project/community action. This could be demonstrated by influencing others to achieve an exceptionally difficult mission or improve the organization.

Initiative and Innovation: The Ina Mae “Tiny” Miller Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated an initiative or innovation on their department and or related to the community they serve. The initiative or innovation would have marked improvement for the department or community; is measurable and supported documentation.

Up to $1,500.00 in travel, registration, and hotel. 

Diane Skoog Honorary Scholarship

The Diane Skoog Honorary Scholarship will be awarded to a woman currently serving in an Executive Level (Lieutenant and above). Diane Skoog is the former Executive Director of NAWLEE who devoted 17 years to our organization. Diane is also the former Chief from Carver, MA where she served for 25 years.

Up to $1,200.00 in travel, registration, and hotel.

NAWLEE’s Past President Scholarship:

NAWLEE’s Past Presidents are pleased to announce the Past Presidents Award established in 2015. The Past Presidents Scholarship gives back to our profession to encourage new and potential members to attend a NAWLEE conference.

• Applicants must be an active member of a federal, state, county, municipal, campus, or railroad law enforcement agency and must currently supervise first-line supervisors or above.

Up to $1,000.00 in travel, registration, and hotel.

NAWLEE Future Leaders:

NAWLEE is pleased to announce the newly established Future Leaders Scholarship for aspiring leaders.

• Applicants must be an active member of a federal, state, county, municipal, campus, or railroad law enforcement agency and either at the patrol/deputy/trooper, or sergeant rank.

Up to $1,200.00 in travel, registration, and hotel.

Asphalt Magnolias Scholarship:

The benefactor of the Asphalt Magnolias scholarship believes that women continue to be underrepresented in both numbers and at the command level of state police and highway patrol agencies after more than 40 years of women in policing. The number of women troopers, particularly at the command level, remains low in most state police and highway patrol agencies in the south. The scholarship is being made available as an opportunity for the recipient to connect with other women at the executive level and encourage future participation of their agency and other women troopers.

• Women Troopers in state police or highway patrol agencies only

• Must be Employed in the following states: LA, AR, MS, AL, TN, GA, NC, SC, KY, WV, VA, FL

• Command Level (Captain and above)

• First Time NAWLEE Conference Attendee

Up to $1,200.00 in travel, registration, and hotel.
